Meta Platforms and social media company Snap were given a deadline of December 1 by the European Union to provide more information on how they protect children from illegal and harmful content, the European Commission said Friday.
The request for information about steps companies are taking to improve the protection of children comes a day after similar messages from the European Union to Alphabet's YouTube and TikTok.
Last month, the Commission also sent an urgent order to companies, including Meta,
The commission could open an investigation into the companies if it is not satisfied with their response, Reuters reported on Friday (10/11).
Under new online content regulations known as the Digital Services Act (DSA), large online platforms are required to do more to crack down on illegal and harmful content or risk fines of up to 6 percent of their global turnover.
