PT IBM Indonesia revealed that they experienced a significant increase in the number of generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) customers in September 2024 compared to the same period last year. This indicates that more companies and individuals are becoming interested in utilizing this advanced Technology in various applications, from product development to data analysis. This increase reflects a global trend towards broader adoption of AI Technology, as well as growing confidence in the capabilities of generative AI to improve efficiency and innovation.
Roy Kosasih, the President Director of PT IBM Indonesia, stated that this growth is driven by the high demand for artificial intelligence Technology in various companies. Almost all corporations have made the decision to implement AI Technology. This is due to the fact that companies that do not leverage generative AI risk falling behind their competitors.
Employees in companies that apply artificial intelligence will contribute to the accelerated development of those companies. According to a Business Value survey released by IBM, almost 40% of companies in Indonesia and globally have made the decision to adopt artificial intelligence. This shows that many organizations are beginning to realize the importance of this Technology in enhancing their competitiveness. With AI, employees can focus more on strategic and creative tasks, while routine and repetitive tasks can be automated, thus improving overall productivity.
Roy mentioned that the sectors most interested in adopting AI solutions from IBM are banking, insurance, and other financial services.
"The manufacturing and service industries have also shown significant interest. However, globally, the use of generative AI is not only concentrated in these three industries but is also present in retail, transportation, and logistics sectors," said Roy.
Senior Data & AI Partner Technical Specialist at IBM Indonesia, Muhammad Fachrizal Sinaga, stated that artificial intelligence (AI) is not a Technology that only becomes popular at certain times. He explained that although AI is currently in the spotlight across various sectors, this Technology has actually been developed since 1956. Since then, research and innovation in the field of AI have continued, demonstrating that artificial intelligence is a field with a strong and sustainable foundation.
In the past seven years, the adoption of artificial intelligence in companies has increased sevenfold, thanks to the benefits it offers in improving productivity. He revealed that the use of generative AI in corporate environments has significant differences compared to its use in the retail sector. There are five things that companies must prepare for to maximize AI utilization.
First, no single model can answer all questions in the enterprise market, given the diverse needs. This has led to the emergence of hundreds of thousands of AI models, each with different applications and sectors. Every model has its own unique strengths and weaknesses.
Therefore, companies need solutions that can support more than one model.
Second, there is a multi-hybrid cloud or cloud-based AI approach. Future AI trends show that the use of cloud-based AI will increase. However, many companies want their AI to function on-premise, meaning AI is run by local computer systems located on-site.
Third, compliance with the source of information is an aspect that cannot be ignored. Companies need solutions that can transparently show the origin of the data being used.
Fourth, regarding scale value, attention to the data foundation is crucial. If the data foundation is not managed well, the answers produced by AI will be inaccurate, unprofessional, and difficult to verify.
Lastly, aligning data into a consistent measure is essential. This requires a platform capable of managing all variations of data.
"Productivity improvements can be achieved through higher optimization and efficiency. In this case, AI plays a role," Fachrizal explained.
He stated that the number of AI models today continues to increase. Currently, IBM records that there are 725,000 AI models based on data from Hugging Face. Meanwhile, at the beginning of May, the number of AI models was around 670,000.
In the past few weeks, AI model development has made significant progress. "Which models can be applied to companies?" Fachrizal asked.
