The IT Infrastructure implemented through Weight In Motion (WIM) enables the capture and recording of axle weight and the total weight of vehicles as they pass through the measurement location. This technology effectively addresses the issue of Over Dimension Over Load (ODOL) in the road transportation sector. With sensors installed at specific intervals, WIM can detect vehicle dimensions, such as length, width, height, axle configuration, and total weight. This data is automatically sent to the relevant system, allowing authorities to quickly identify and take action against trucks that fall into the ODOL category.
With WIM in place, the risks of traffic congestion, potential illegal levies, and officer compromise can be minimized. WIM also represents a concrete step in digitalizing public services, particularly road transport infrastructure.
WIM Implementation in South Kalimantan and IT Infrastructure Optimization
The Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, has reviewed the WIM trial on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road at KM 9. Meanwhile, in South Kalimantan, WIM implementation is still early. The IT Infrastructure related to WIM currently relies on the Weigh Stations operating at UPPKB Kintap. Plans to implement WIM at UPPKB Tabalong are still underway, with physical development expected to be realized by 2023. According to the statement from the Head of LLAJ BPTD Region XV South Kalimantan, Mr. Ade Supriadi, the infrastructure development includes enforcement and the UPPKB office in Tabalong.
By implementing WIM at UPPKB Kintap first, South Kalimantan can maximize the available time for installation, socialization, and WIM trials while awaiting the completion of infrastructure projects in Tabalong. Applying WIM in Kintap will be essential to developing the region's IT Infrastructure. WIM provides a more efficient and accurate system and enhances the quality of services in transport law enforcement.
Optimizing IT Infrastructure through WIM
WIM technology is critical in optimizing IT Infrastructure in the road transport sector. Implementing WIM enables vehicle measurement processes to run automatically and in real time. This system also supports online monitoring and data processing, strengthening user-friendly IT Infrastructure for various parties, including the government and road users. In the context of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, WIM is concrete evidence of how digital technology can be applied to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of public services.
With supportive IT Infrastructure, WIM technology can be the primary instrument in creating a more orderly, safe, and regulated road transport system.
