Global technology company Nokia presents "Nokia Technology Strategy 2030" as a step to identify new trends and technologies that will shape technology, networks and the world in the next seven years or in 2030.

“Nokia's 2030 Technology Strategy is a direct response to the latest technological developments over the last decade. "One thing is certain: radical change is needed now to evolve networks to meet the challenges of the future and beyond," said Nokia Chief Strategy and Technology Officer Nishant Batra in a press statement, Tuesday.

He added, “Companies across all industries are facing three trends that they will face (namely) AI, cloud and the continued evolution of connectivity. Our Nokia 2030 Technology Strategy outlines the network architecture of the future for customers and the industry. "This strategy opens up opportunities for innovation, sustainability, productivity and collaboration, which can only be realized through the exponential power of networks," he said.

According to the Global Network Traffic 2030 report, network traffic is growing and will increase dramatically in this decade. Driving this growth are current trends such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), extended reality (XR), digital twins, automation and the availability of billions of devices.

To maximize the exponential potential of this technology to solve tomorrow's greatest challenges, networks will need to adapt and transform. These technologies must produce durable, accessible, and sustainable innovations by relying on reliable and secure cognitive networks.

Therefore, Nokia Technology Strategy 2030 identifies the new trends and technologies that will impact service provider networks, enterprises and industries in this decade, as well as Nokia's role in helping networks evolve.

The main trends influencing Nokia's Technology Strategy 2030 are AI, cloud continuum, metaverse, API economy, Industry 5.0, Internet of value, sustainability and security which depend on highly responsive and secure networks.

In its Global Network Traffic 2030 report, Nokia projects data demand by customers will increase at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 22 percent to 25 percent from 2022 – 2030. Data demand in global network traffic is expected to reach between 2,443 to 3,109 exabyte (EB) per month by 2030.

If there is a higher adoption rate for cloud gaming and XR in the second half of the decade, Nokia projects the CAGR will reach 32 percent. For networks to support the increasing demands of the future, they must become more cognitive and automated using AI and ML, and meet the transformative needs and operating models of organizations and consumers.

Technological breakthroughs such as XR and digital twins, combined with Web3 and other new innovations, will change business, society and the world.

“By 2030, the pace of technological development we are seeing today will increase network traffic significantly. “The Nokia 2030 Technology Strategy, with its emphasis on effective use of AI, cloud, connectivity and the API economy, is the framework that service providers and enterprises need to implement,” said Global Head of Research & Analysis Global Data Technology Jerry Caron.

The service provider industry needs to transform by offering more flexible services. Nokia and the industry as a whole must demonstrate that they understand the problems and the potential, through a revitalized approach as demonstrated by the long-term Nokia 2030 Technology Strategy.
