As its contribution to preserving marine ecosystems, Garmin launched the Descent G1 Solar Ocean Edition smartwatch which is made from plastic and used fishing nets that do not decompose in the sea.

Garmin Indonesia Marketing Communication Rian Krisna said that Garmin's focus is on recycling used nets because based on data from the International Union of Conservation of Nature, 45 percent of marine mammals are threatened with extinction because they are killed by fishing nets that cannot decompose for 600 years.

"This fishing net is not just a large fishing net but a small net, it can float in the ocean for 3 kilometers and takes around 600 years to decompose, so this marine debris has been in the sea for a long time and is detrimental. marine ecosystem," said Rian in a press conference. online which continued in Jakarta, Tuesday.

The Garmin Descent G1 Solar Ocean Edition is made by collecting fishing net waste and marine plastic which have the potential to pollute marine ecosystems. Once collected, the materials are separated by type and cleaned thoroughly, then dried until there is no remaining moisture.

The dry material is made into pellets and shaped according to the product design and color. After that, it went into the manufacturing process to create the Descent G1 Solar Edition which combines Garmin technology and its commitment to environmental sustainability.

"The front bezel is made from recycled plastic which comes from used fishing nets, then we designed the design to be durable and long-lasting so that it still provides a unique and meaningful appearance and meets standards," said Rian.

Meanwhile, the screen is designed with a Sunlightvisible MIP display measuring 1.28 inches made of sapphire so that it is easy to read when under hot sunlight, so that the indicators on the watch screen can still be read to support activities ranging from diving to other sports.

Design The Garmin G1 Solar Ocean Edition has a sturdy but elegant design so it can be used for outdoor and daily activities to support your lifestyle. Garmin also contributes to plastic pollution by not using plastic packaging in its sales and charging with unlimited solar power, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of electricity use.

"This allows the watch to be used longer, including for diving, up to 25 hours when diving mode, when not diving, up to 124 days, including when combined with the use of solar power," said Rian.

With a strap width of 22 millimeters and quick fit technology and water resistance of up to 100 meters, this smart watch can be used for various required diving features such as single gas mode, multi gas mode, as well as reminders so divers can know. safe diving time and depth. .

The buttons on the watch are also designed to be leak-proof and more responsive when used underwater. Apart from diving, the Garmin G1 Solar Ocean Edition can also be used for other sports such as yoga or Pilates, and can detect oxygen saturation, stress levels and sleep scores to support a healthier lifestyle.

Currently, the Garmin G1 Solar Ocean Edition can be ordered through Garmin stores in shopping centers for IDR 10.8 million. Apart from the G1 Ocean Edition, Garmin also released another new Descent series, namely the Descent MK3 and Descent MK3i.
