Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, gave a strong warning to Meta Management in Indonesia to immediately clean up online gambling or slot gambling content on all Meta services and platforms.

"I convey orders as well as a strong warning to Meta to immediately clean up all kinds of content that supports, facilitates, and/or promotes online gambling or slot gambling activities on all Meta platforms within 1 x 24 hours," stressed Budi in a statement in Nusa Dua. , Badung, Bali, Tuesday.

He conveyed this considering that the Ministry of Communication and Information has officially sent a letter with Number B703/M.KOM INFO/ Al.05.02/10/2023 regarding Orders for Handling Content and Activities of Online Gambling and/or slot gambling by PSE to Meta Representatives in Indonesia dated October 2 2023.

However, apparently this has not been followed up, in fact online gambling content is still found floating around on Meta's platform.

"We still find various kinds of online gambling and/or slot gambling content on the Meta platform," he said.

​​​​​Reflecting on this, Budi emphasized that he would continue this handling to law enforcement officials if Meta did not follow up on this optimally.

He is of the opinion that all forms of failure or negligence regarding the non-fulfillment of PSE's obligations in handling online gambling or slot gambling will be subject to sanctions in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

"If Meta fails to follow up on this warning optimally, then we will forward this matter to law enforcement to be followed up firmly, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in the Indonesian jurisdiction," he said.

This strong warning has also been delivered in the form of a warning letter numbered 752/M.KOMINFO/Al.05.02/10/2023 regarding Orders and Warnings for Handling of Gambling Content and/or Slot Gambling by Meta.

In accordance with the provisions of Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions as amended by Law No. 19 of 2016 along with implementing regulations, all Electronic System Operators (PSE) providing services in Indonesia have an obligation to ensure that the electronic systems they manage do not contain and do not facilitate the dissemination of prohibited electronic information and/or electronic documents, including gambling content and activities. online and/or slot gambling.
