The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) said that digitizing Indonesian script into gadgets circulating in Indonesia could help maintain and preserve local culture, especially for the younger generation.

The Director General of Postal and Informatics Resources and Equipment (Ditjen SDPPI) of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Ismail, said that the inclusion of Indonesian scripts such as Kawi, Javanese, Sundanese, Pegon and Balinese scripts on gadgets could increase people's knowledge through digitalization.

"So that national script as property can continue to grow and be utilized well by society, especially the younger generation, digitalization is one of the right answers," said Ismail when confirmed, Tuesday.

This was conveyed by Ismail at the "Sharing Session on Digitalization of Indonesian Script" which took place some time ago.

Furthermore, Ismail assessed that the steps to digitize Indonesian script via gadgets are more effective for the younger generation because nowadays gadgets have become a necessity for society.

Moreover, gadgets are neutral technology that has no boundaries, so the role of the government is needed to make this technology maximally useful, not only to support productivity but also to preserve culture and strengthen nationality.

"One of them is by adding things related to culture on smartphones," said Ismail.

Ismail said the Ministry of Communication and Information is committed to providing support to industries that incorporate Indonesian script into their devices and can count these efforts as Domestic Component Level (TKDN).

The hope is that it will encourage players in the industry to incorporate Indonesian script into these electronic devices.

"Later it could be an additional option to add the TKDN section so that there are more local product contributions in one product," he said.

He believes that in the future the Indonesian nation can become a progressive and proactive nation by maintaining local script as an important part of culture to maintain national values.

"If not us, who else will look after this property," said Ismail.
