The global application for meeting new people, Tinder, has officially launched a public awareness campaign regarding the prevention of romance fraud in four countries in Southeast Asia, namely Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore.
Through its press release, Wednesday, Tinder proactively educates users regarding the resources (important resources) that can be accessed. From August 23 to September 6 2023, users will receive a notification when opening the Tinder application so that they are directed to more complete information about being careful of romance scams on the application and accompanied by a message from the Tinder team as well as a notification announcement.
“Our goal is to make Tinder the safest place to meet new people online. Financial and romantic fraud can be very clever, and scammers are constantly trying to find new ways to take advantage of people,” said Tinder Vice President APAC Communications Papri Dev.
Users can learn tips from information sources regarding Tinder romance scams that advise in detail on actions they can take to protect themselves from online fraud. Meanwhile, earlier this year, Tinder's parent company (Match Group) announced that it was continuing to invest in improving machine learning tools that proactively detect, prevent and remove spam from Match Group's portfolio of apps.
Every minute, 44 spam accounts are removed from across the app in an effort to help reduce suspected fraudulent accounts, which are blocked at sign-up or before users see them. Additionally, nearly 5 million bot and spam accounts were removed between January and March 2023, before accounts gained access to the platform or immediately after registration, in an effort to prevent potential harm.
When connecting with new people online, there are three quick tips to help keep your Tinder experience fun and safe: always be respectful of others and follow Tinder's community guidelines, and pay attention to the blue check mark for Photo Verification by asking users to take a photo. selfie, as the best way to prove the authenticity of the profile.
Lastly, users can also block profiles as well as giving them the option to see who they want to meet on Tinder. When the profile option appears before a match, users can block it from appearing again. This feature comes in addition to the contact blocking and blocking features after making a report.
